Nur Syafiqah (Differences of Artic Tundra and Alpine Tundra)


          Do most of you know that there are two types of tundra? There are Artic Tundra and Alpine Tundra. Artic Tundra are found at the Southern Hemisphere while Alpine Tundra are fount at the Indian Peaks region of Colorado. The climate of the Alpine tundra is exceedingly harsh. There, snow remains as permanent snow fields. What about the climate of Artic Tundra? Artic Tundra in the other hand have two seasons which are the winter and the summer. During summer, the sun is present almost 24 hours a day. This Sun however, warms the tundra upto a range of about 30c to 12oc. During winter however, there are several weeks where the sun never rises. The temperature is around -28 to -70 degree.


          How about plants? Do you know that there are plants that live in both the tundra. For Arctic Tundra, there are around 1700 species of plants whereas for Alpine Tundar there are only 200 different species of plants. Some of them which grows in the Artic Tundra are like the Arctic Moss, Arctic Willows, Bearberry and many more. On the other hand, plants which grow in the Alpine Tundra are the Alpine Bluegrass and many more

          If there is plants there is sure an animal which live there. Yes, some animals can live on Tundra. It is very shocking but that is the truth. Loons, terns, pengins, polar bear, musk ox, grey wolf and many more are examples of animals that live in the Artic Tundra. Beetles, pika, marmots, white-tail parmigan, grouse and many more are examples of animals which lives in the Alpine Tundra.
