Jolene (Differences between Tundra and Forests)

Climate
Tundra~ Summer: 12 °C to 3 °C  Winter: -28°C to -50 °C
Forests~ 20°C to 25°C


Animals
Tundra~ lemmings, voles, caribou, arctic hares and squirrels arctic foxes, wolves, and polar bears ravens, snow buntings, falcons, loons, sandpipers, terns, snow birds, and various species of gulls, mosquitoes, flies, moths, grasshoppers, blackflies and arctic bumble bees, cod, flatfish, salmon, and trout
Forests~ birds, bats, small mammals, and insects.


Plants
Tundra~ short and group together to resist the cold temperatures and are protected by the snow during the winter
Forests~ orchids, bromeliads, vines (lianas), ferns, mosses, and palms


Area
Tundra~ encircling the north pole and extending south to the coniferous forests of the taiga
Forests~ 1/3 of the earth's surface
